Please Note: The Volunteer Call does not encompass Volunteer Groups with Board-appointed positions, such as the ABoR Foundation Board of Directors, Legislative Management Team, or Governing Policies Committee.


2024 Volunteer Groups with Open Positions

ABoR’s Candidate Interview Panels vet and interview candidates for public office within ABoR’s jurisdiction and make recommendations for potential endorsements to the Legislative Management Team.

The purpose of Candidate Interviews is as follows: 

  1. To provide an opportunity for ABoR members to become better acquainted with candidates running for elected office and their stances on issues that affect the real estate industry. 
  2. To educate the candidates on some of the issues and views, as determined by ABoR’s Legislative Management Team (LMT) and Board of Directors (BOD), that are important to the Association concerning the real estate industry and private property rights. 
  3. To determine whether a candidate is worthy of support and to make recommendations for support to the ABoR Board of Directors. 

Qualifications 

Candidate Interview Panel members should meet the following qualifications: 

  • Registered voter 
  • TREPAC Contributor 
  • Completion of the relevant training 
  • Agreement to abide by the Conflict of Interest Policy, Objectivity Statement, and Confidentiality Statement 
  • Some knowledge of or experience with local government or politics is preferred 

Selection Process 

All applicants will be invited to attend the two-hour training session in early Spring 2024. Those who complete the training will select which panel(s) they prefer to sit on. The LMT Chair and Vice Chair will make recommendations for the makeup of each Candidate Interview Panel. Panels will be confirmed by the LMT and the BOD and will be seated by the end of May 2024. 

Time Commitment 

All panel members will be required to attend the two-hour training session in early Spring 2024. Additionally, each Candidate Interview Panel will meet up to six times during the summer to interview candidates for public office. The number of times a Candidate Interview Panel will need to meet is dependent on the number of candidates running for each office. 

30 positions available 

The ABoR Foundation’s efforts are led by an Advisory Group comprised of the members of an overarching Board of Directors and diverse candidates who have demonstrated a consistent track record in community service and/or fundraising initiatives and who share the ABoR Foundation’s commitment to housing, education, and disaster relief.

13 positions available 

Foundation Ambassadors champion and support the ABoR Foundation's initiatives related to housing, education, and disaster relief in Central Texas. Ambassadors have the opportunity to get involved in the Scholarship Program, housing builds, service projects, fundraising, member outreach, and more. If you're looking for a way to get involved and do some good at various points throughout the year or a volunteer role that works with your busy schedule, this one is for you!

Unlimited positions available

The Audit Committee assists the Board of Directors in its oversight responsibilities regarding the integrity, compliance, internal and external audit/review functions of the Association. Members and officers are recommended by the Vetting Committee and approved by the Board of Directors each fall.

Qualifications 

Committee members should have a working familiarity with basic finance and accounting practices. Members should also be able to read and understand fundamental financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and statements of cash flow. Applicants must be a primary or secondary ABoR REALTOR® member to serve on this committee. 

Time Commitment 

The Audit Committee typically meets once a year, or as often as necessary to enable fulfillment of its responsibilities. 

2-4 positions available 

The Budget Committee is responsible for reviewing financial policies, goals, and budgets that support the mission, values, and strategic goals of the Association. Members and officers are recommended by the Vetting Committee and approved by the Board of Directors each fall.

Qualifications 

Budget Committee members should have a working familiarity with basic finance and accounting practices and be able to read and understand fundamental financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and statements of cash flow.  Applicants must be a primary or secondary ABoR REALTOR® member to serve on this committee. 

Time Commitment 

The Budget Committee typically meets quarterly to review financial statements. In the fourth quarter of each year, the committee meets as often as necessary to recommend the annual budgets for approval by the ABoR and Unlock MLS Boards of Directors. 

Up to 2 positions available 

The Diversity Committee coordinates activities related to increasing the overall diversity and inclusiveness of ABoR volunteers and leadership to mirror the rich diversity and culture of our region.

Qualifications 

At large positions on the Diversity Committee must be fulfilled by ABoR primary or secondary REALTOR® members. Applicants who are active in any of ABoR’s Strategic Partner organizations or have experience working on diversity issues are preferred. 

Time Commitment 

The Diversity Committee meets quarterly, or as often as necessary to fulfill its responsibilities. 

10 - 15 positions available 

The Global Advisory Group consists of the Global Chair, Vice-Chair, Past Chair, as well as two Global Ambassadors. These positions are held by ABoR members and/or affiliated professionals who have expertise in global real estate.

Qualifications 

  • Advisors may be ABoR members or affiliated professionals with global real estate expertise. Once a Global Advisor has been selected to be on the Global Advisory Group, a member can rotate through the Chair, Vice-Chair, and Past Chair as part of their term. Otherwise, the terms are one year.  

Time Commitment (Meetings): 1 hour/quarterly on average, January 2024 –December 2024

Time Commitment (Programming): 12-15 hours/annually, January 2024 – December 2024

2 positions available 

ABoR Global Ambassadors are appointed by the Global Advisory Group to serve as liaisons to their assigned country or entity. Global Ambassadors provide insight into emerging real estate strategies, trends, and resources within their respective focus.

Qualifications 

ABoR Global Ambassadors may be ABoR members or affiliated professionals with expertise in global real estate. 

Time Commitment 

 12-15 hours annually, January 2024 – December 2024

Up to 30 positions available 

The Industry Awards Committee assists in honoring ABoR members who have made outstanding contributions to the real estate industry and their community and best reflects the member charge to Advocate, Build, Change, and Lead. The Industry Awards Committee will screen anonymous applications and recommend finalists to the Board of Directors for approval, as well as serve as event ambassadors promoting nominations, applications, sponsorships and attendance.

Qualifications: 

  • Active REALTOR® members that may include up to 2 Affiliate members
  • Committee members must be in good standing and currently practicing real estate for a minimum of 2 years 

Time Commitment 

The Industry Awards Candidate Review Committee meets up to 5 times in the first quarter.  

7 - 9 positions available

The Legislative Management Team serves as the front line of advocacy volunteerism on behalf of ABoR. The committee makes policy, candidate and issues recommendations as requested by the Board of Directors, aligned with ABoR’s Policy Principles and NAR’s Preamble Code of Ethics which includes the tenets of private property rights, strategic land use, and business issues and practices. The Legislative Management Team consists of a committee chair, vice chair, previous year chair, ABoR Board of Director or designee, all Texas REALTORS® Region 15 TREPAC Trustees and Political Involvement Council representative, the chair and vice chair of the TREPAC Committee, and four Policy Team Lead positions that focus on business issues, land use, property rights and rental issues.  

Qualifications 

LMT Policy Team Leads must be a primary or secondary REALTOR® member of ABoR and should have some experience with local government or public policy issues. 

Time Commitment 

LMT Policy Team Leads: LMT Policy Team Leads are required to attend the monthly LMT meetings. Policy Team Leads are required to attend meetings to help craft ABoR’s annual public policy agenda, which typically occurs twice a year, and serve as host at their respective annual policy forum. In addition, Policy Team Leads are expected to be a go-to resource for ABoR Staff on policy issues related to their respective Policy Team and may be asked to participate in meetings with local officials as the need arise.  

4 positions available

The MLS Compliance Committee works with the MLS Staff in the oversight of the MLS Rules and regulations by reviewing subscriber input and coordinating Appeals or Required Hearings.

Qualifications 

Committee members must have a minimum of 3 years of real estate experience, as well as have a firm understanding of the MLS Rules and Regulations. Applicants must be a primary or secondary ABoR REALTOR® member to serve on this committee. 

Time Commitment 

The MLS Compliance Committee meets at least quarterly or more frequently as the committee may determine. Disciplinary hearings will occur as needed. 

11 positions available 

Policy Teams serve as educational opportunities where we turn our members into experts on specific public policy issues that are identified in ABoR’s Public Policy Principles, including: business issues, land use, private property rights, and rental issues. Each of ABoR’s four Policy Teams have a Policy Team Lead who serves on the Legislative Management Team (LMT), provides ABoR Staff with a practitioner’s perspective on policy issues related to their Policy Team, and helps ABoR staff monitor and advise the LMT on policy issues within their Policy Team’s scope. If you would like to be a Policy Team Lead you can apply through the LMT application.  

Qualifications 

Policy Team Members must be a primary or secondary REALTOR® member of ABoR. 

Time Commitment 

Policy Team Members: Each Policy Team hosts a policy forum annually and meets twice a year to help craft ABoR’s annual public policy agenda.  

 

Unlimited positions available 

The TREPAC Committee is charged with raising awareness and funds for the Texas REALTORS® Political Action Committee (TREPAC). Committee activities include adopting and implementing an annual fundraising plan to help ABoR reach our TREPAC goals and supporting candidates and elected officials who are supportive of the real estate industry, private property rights, and homeownership.

Qualifications 

TREPAC Committee members should meet the following qualifications: 

  • Registered voter 
  • Commitment to support TREPAC at the “Fair Share” level or higher 
  • Fundraising experience 
  • Event-planning experience 
  • Politically active/involved at the local, state, and/or national level 
  • Primary or Secondary REALTOR® member of ABoR 

Time Commitment 

The TREPAC committee meets monthly. Committee members are also required to attend at least one TREPAC fundraising event annually. 

30 positions available 

The Vetting Committee vets candidates for the ABoR and Unlock MLS Boards of Directors. The committee also vets and recommends the most qualified candidates for Texas REALTORS® Director and Regional Vice President; National Association of REALTORS® Director; and ABoR Committee Members, Chairs, and Vice Chairs.

Qualifications 

Committee members should have a thorough understanding of the ABoR and Unlock MLS Strategic Plans as well as the operational focus of both entities to better understand the leadership needed to move the organization forward. Applicants must be a primary or secondary ABoR REALTOR® member to serve on this committee. 

Time Commitment 

The Vetting Committee meets nine (9) times annually, including two (2) full days of candidate interviews.
