Where Does ABoR Stand?
ABoR’s Government Affairs Committee works to protect quality of life in Central Texas, private property rights, homeownership and a strong business environment by engaging in public policy developments and supporting candidates who understand the importance of these issues. Volunteer committee members work in subcommittees that focus on public policy in the following areas: property rights, water supply and infrastructure, transportation infrastructure and conservation.
Local Property Issues
Austin is growing at an extraordinary rate because it’s a great place to live. We want to keep it that way. The Austin Board of REALTORS® is committed to protecting the character and stability of Austin neighborhoods, as well as the rights of individual homeowners. We believe land use policy should balance community interests with private property rights and market demands.

Water and Sustainability Issues
Our current water supply and infrastructure will not meet the needs of our rapidly growing population and economy. Without adequate water, growth will stagnate, causing instability in the housing market. As an advocate for smart development and a strong business environment, ABoR supports efforts to build and reinforce existing water infrastructure, as well as measures that will secure an adequate water supply for the rapidly growing population and economy of Central Texas.
ABoR commits to protecting Austin’s unique environment and to educating its members on energy conservation and sustainability. Studies show consumers consider energy efficiency an important factor when buying a home, and is important when determining a consumer’s ability to buy a home. Because rising energy costs are an integral part of homeownership, ABoR supports energy conservation efforts and programs that will transform the Austin culture to embrace conservation and sustainability.

Regional Water Issues
Our current water supply and infrastructure will not meet the needs of our rapidly growing population and economy. Without adequate water, growth will stagnate, causing instability in the housing market. As an advocate for smart development and a strong business environment, ABoR supports efforts to build and reinforce existing water infrastructure, as well as measures that will secure an adequate water supply for the rapidly growing population and economy of Central Texas.

Regional Transportation Infrastructure
Quality of life is one of the main drivers of development and economic stability in Central Texas. ABoR supports local and regional initiatives to improve, sustain and build the Central Texas transportation infrastructure in order to relieve traffic congestion now and meet the future needs of a rapidly growing population.
