Dubbed the “crown jewel” of the Highland Lakes of Central Texas, Lake Travis covers nearly 19,000 acres and features more than 270 miles of shoreline. It’s the most-visited freshwater lake in Texas and the Austin area’s aquatic playground.
Although most of the residences around Lake Travis are primary and vacation homes, there are condos and apartments, too. Neighborhoods along the lake include Steiner Ranch, Sweetwater, Spanish Oaks, Rough Hollow, Rocky Creek, Hills of Lakeway, Hudson Bend, Lake Pointe, Flintrock Falls, Fountainhead, Briarcliff, and Point Venture. Cities in the Lake Travis area include Lakeway, Lago Vista, Jonestown, and Volente.
Lake Travis holds the distinction of being home to Hippie Hollow Park, the only clothing-optional public park in Texas. Another highlight at the lake is the Oasis, a bar and restaurant famous for its stunning sunsets. Other places to visit include Pace Bend Park, Volente Beach waterpark, and Lake Travis Zipline Adventures. Several marinas and boat rental businesses operate at the lake.
For anybody seeking a restful lakeside lifestyle or boatloads of aquatic activities, Lake Travis is worth considering as a permanent home or a regular weekend getaway.
